June 5, 12, 19, 26
July 3, 10, 17, 24
August 7, 14, 21, 28

The IREVA Board would like to announce the start of the 2011 Junior Beach Program at Volleyball World. Mike and Diane Houghton of Sprakers, New York, wish to open their outdoor sand court facility to all USAV Juniors.

With over 40 colleges nationwide wanting to establish sand volleyball programs, IREVA has taken the lead in establishing a road to get there.

The summer schedule will be broken into two sessions: a) 4x4 coed/same sex, b) 2x2 coed/same sex. Adult doubles and quads players are welcome to join in to offer some quick tips and experiences on an outdoor court.

There are six sand courts, three under lights at VBW that will please all levels of play. The only fee involved for the 2011 season will be for IREVA membership.

It never ceases to amaze us how supportive the volleyball community is to local and world needs. There is a local 6 year-old girl from Sprakers who has a rare form of leukemia and can use some financial help her hospital bills. Her name is Madison Boyer and Volleyball World has taken $500 from this year’s proceeds and donated it to her family. Another suggested charity from our participants in our 2010 tournament was the Parkinson’s Foundation. We have sent a check for $500 to them also. This year we asked players to play more of a part in suggesting a charity of their choice that Volleyball World can support.

Our main focus these last few years has been supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. This year we would like to present a check to Kelly Holt for $2,500 for their spearheading efforts to find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes. Thanks to Dave and Kelly Holt for keeping 125 people fed and happy on that beautiful sunny day.

Our fund raising efforts resulted in the following:

Registration fees: $1,920.00
T-shirt sales & donations: $935.00
Silent Auction: $645.00
Total $3,500.00

Many heartfelt thanks to all of those who donated the many great prizes in this year’s silent auction. We really have to do a better job in documenting who has donating what but here are some of the following donors that we know computer printer and Yankee memorabilia – George Lawrence, laptop computer – Barry Shannon, floral bouquets – Jen VanAlstyne, baby Dasboot – unknown, a homemade apple pie – Darcy Rosenthal, and the many more donations that helped us beat last year’s total.

We hope to see another memorable decoration on the Easter Egg Tree so that it will be a top money-maker in next year’s silent auction.

If anyone has new or used unique volleyball t-shirt they would like to see used in next year’s t-shirt quilt, please send them to Volleyball World at your earliest convenience. Cindy Treis put in many long hours to create this piece of volleyball folk art and looks forward to making one next year. Thanks again, Cindy. We know that Tom Gibson has kept very warm under his new quilt.

It has been our pleasure to watch Ben and Alex Lawrence grow into VBW’s small t-shirts over these last few years. Thanks again, George and Sandy Lawrence for keeping all of our VBW’s players informed through the website.

Thanks to those who donated back their registrations due to their inability to play this last year. We realize that injuries occur and family matters take priority. The last week before the tournament is the most stressful for us since we are trying to keep all nets full with no ghost teams and the highest level of play possible. Thank you for all those who filled in and remained on our standby list up to the last moment. Thanks to all those court jesters who wore their hats with style and grace while keeping track of the scores. Thanks to Jamie Bullock in helping us to transition to computer scoring which found a few errors in manual scoring. Cold beverages may have added to human error.

Remember, early, COMPLETE registrations guarantee you a spot at our VBW 10th King and Queen Tournament on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Mark your calendars now. We filled in six weeks in the spring of 2010 (That’s 96 players). This year we will only reserve t-shirts with accompanying payment (we won’t go into why).

We hope to make the 10th annual Mike and Diane’s VBW King and Queen tournament one that you won’t forget.
